It is quite rare to encounter a wild animal, especially the king of the jungle, that is, the male lion in its natural habitats. That being said, being able to see multiple at once, however, is. And seeing them mate is even more of an unbelievable event. For one couple they were even lucky to see this type of mating firsthand and secondly they were also able to capture this on camera so that the rest of us get a chance to come across it and learn something from it.

The video which is presented below was filmed in one of the largest reserves in the world – Kruger National Park located in South Africa. The first scene of the video is us watching several male lions on the road and strolling majestically. Read below the experience of the couple who filmed this video.

Male Lion Mounts

If one has been doing regular safari for the years like we have spend nearly 20 years doing safaris in Africa, spending more than 300 nights in the bushes of 7 different countries, then sighting of mating lions is not something which one sees for the first time ever.as we had observed this male /female couple just a day before at crocodile bridge. We however only saw a male/male combination for the first time ever.

It is incredible watching these male lions walking on the road as they spend some time to rest. Like other animals will do, they take their positions where they can find most shade from trees as virtually every animal does. At 25 seconds we get to witness another male lion approaching another male lion which is sleeping in the roadway. He then climaxes on the body of the male lion by start mounting him in the process of mating. The couple filming provided their experience as follows below.

This is not known to be male lion mating, though this was not at all an action of sexual nature and does not involve penetration at that; this is actually all about power.

Male Lions Hump Other Male Lions

This is a sure sign that is quite a rare occurrence for sure, which is probably why it gets to be rather confusing at times. As it was observed in the video there was no penetration of the latex barrier for there to be real sexual intercourse. Thus, why would one male lion move around in such a manner to rub his genitals against another male lion? Oh, probably it is a manifestation of status competition.

People who filmed this state that: “Dominant male lions, and also other animals, such as elephants, will mount the other males to, in a way, show them who’s boss. ” This assertion is true because male lions are the kings of the jungle and thus have a paramount desire to assert their authority.

Can two male lions be together?

African lions which are mostly male live in coalitions and the number ranges from two to four lions but the largest recorded was eight lions. These male coalitions are made up of brothers and cousins although there are others that are formed by unrelated males.
